SCIEMP Zotero Library
This Zotero library has been developed as a research tool to support the activities of the Science and Empire Commission (SCIEMP), part of the Division for the History of Science and Technology (DHST). It aims to collect, organize, and make accessible key and emerging bibliographic references on the historical interconnections between Science and Empire.
The collection reflects the geographical, epistemological, and cultural diversity that shaped the production, appropriation, negotiation, and transformation of scientific knowledge within imperial contexts. It includes studies addressing:
- The production of science in colonial settings;
- Empires as spaces of connections, circulation and production;
- The role of colonial and local scientific actors;
- The function of imperial networks, scientific expeditions, collections, maps, botanical gardens, and other spaces and instruments in the making of modern science;
- The relationship between science, technology, and forms of domination or resistance in colonial and postcolonial contexts.
The library is intended to serve as a reference repository for researchers, students, and all those interested in the intersections of science and empire.
This bibliographic resource is continuously updated and includes books, peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, dissertations, etc.
We invite SCIEMP members and the broader history of science community to contribute suggestions and make use of this tool in their research and teaching initiatives.
